Škoda Superb sets a new Guinness World Record

Škoda, the major automobile manufacturer owned by the Volkswagen Group has managed to set a new Guiness World Record for the greatest distance driven on a single tank of fuel. The car, Superb, covered an astonishing 2,831 kilometers, or 1,761 miles, across five European countries without refueling.

Rally champion Miko Marczyk accomplished the record-setting drive in his own Škoda Superb, traveling from Poland across Germany, France, Belgium, and the Netherlands—covering the entire route on just one 66-liter tank of diesel fuel. Miko, who is a 29-year-old European Rally Champion, maintained an average speed of 80 kilometers per hour throughout the journey, even with temperatures and driving conditions changing.

In his journey in setting this World Record, a support vehicle followed a few miles ahead, updating him about road conditions, slopes, and turns to help him plan braking and acceleration perfectly. The Superb had around 20,000 kilometers on the odometer before Miko’s attempt, making the achievement even more meaningful since it was not brand new or specially built for the test.

After completing the drive, Miko Marczyk shared his thought stating: “The Superb proved that diesel is still the king of long-distance efficiency. My next goal is to cross the 3,000-kilometer mark.” He also states that with the use of premium diesel and a more optimized route, he’s confident this goal is within reach.

The Superb achieved an incredible 38 kilometers per liter, or 90 miles per gallon, which represents nearly double its official fuel efficiency rating of 20 kmpl.
