‘Star Trek’ Has Made $2.6 Billion for Streaming Services
Star Trek, the groundbreaking science-fiction franchise that began in the ‘60s and has since expanded into a vast universe of TV series and movies, as well as books and games, is reported to make billions for different Streaming Services in the last 4 years alone.
Parrot Analytics SES published reports indicating that the Star Trek franchise has been reliably making money for Paramount+, the ones the franchise belongs to nowadays, but also other streaming services such as Netlix and Amazon Prime Video. Their model estimates that from Q1 2020 until Q3 2024, shows and movies in the Star Trek franchise have generated over $2.6 billion in subscriber revenue globally.
Netflix, which also until recently held the international rights for Star Trek: Discovery, from Q1 2020-Q3 2024, earned over $1 billion in global subscription revenue from the Star Trek franchise. Amazon Prime Video, which has the global rights to Star Trek: Picard, among others — has generated $466 million from the franchise. Paramount+ in the same time made roughly around $940 million. All other streaming services accounted for the remaining $225 million.

Each quarter since Q4 2022 Paramount+ has realized the most streaming subscriber revenue from the Star Trek franchise. Given that as time goes on, they will regain the rights to the rest of the franchise, and with their ambitions plans for various more movies and shows, it’s very likely that Star Trek will continue making money and increase its fanbase.
Right now, the latest show Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (2022–present) can be streamed exclusively on Paramount+, and it’s already being hailed as one of the best, if not the very best of the franchise. Fans are also excited for Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, which is in the making.
